Nehro
Updated: Friday, January 22, 2010 at 07:00PM
Nehro was adopted in April '06 and originally lived on a sailboat with his owner. Here's his current situation: He (Bear) is wonderful!!! Turned six this fall and doesn't look a day over three. He goes to the horse farm with me quite a bit now, but still has to stay on the leash cause he'll run off. But he's great. I couldn't be happier with him. He's definitely attached to me too, the only other person he responds to the same way with is my boyfriend Owen. He sleeps under the covers with us at night and greats me with licks and a wagging tail every morning. He also has a cat now too and they love each other. I'll send you a few pictures of him. I'm so gald you emailed! Hope all is well! Bear on a chilly November day at the barn. In his lovely barn coat and of course the blanket he never goes any where without... Even in the summer!!
Sugarbush
Updated: Friday, January 22, 2010 at 06:40PM
Sugar - (we dropped the bush, sorry for the GW Bush fans. We debated many other names, but Sugar was the best fit) has been with us since January 1st. She is such a Lovebug! She just begs to be a part of everything, and we are more than willing to give it to her. It feels like she has been a part of our family since she was a puppy, she fits in so well here. She also gets along very well with our resident "old man" Arrow, a 14 year old Border Collie. What is awesome about adopting her is that we didn't have to go through all the puppy ownership anxiety of chewing everything, house training, etc... at two, she is past all that. She is a dog however, and has chewed up a few things my kids have left on the floor... a valuable lesson for my kids. Please pass this on to Sally, she was an integral part of Sugar becoming a part of our family. We couldn't be happier with our Sugar! Very Sincerely, Vicki

Jack
Updated: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 11:35AM
Hi Lynne We just wanted to give you a little update on Jack. Jack is now completely spoiled - he got 3 Christmas stockings full of goodies! He had so many new toys he wasn't sure which one to play with first. After he found the large rawhide bone we didn't see him for a couple hours since he had to hide in the other room (he likes his privacy). Jack has really come out of his shell over the past few months. Think it took him almost a month before he made a sound, but now he is barking (occasionally) and his newest thing seems to be growling/talking. He loves going for walks (still working on the leash training) and playing with his toys. I think a toys average life span is a couple of hours once he gets it. He also rearranges his furniture on a daily basis - he has 3 dog pillows and we never know where we will find them when we come home. They will be all over the living room and propped up against the table or couch being used as a pillow. Jack has impressed all his visitors with his unique sitting habit - he sits on his butt and rests his front paws on your leg or arm and will stay that way as long as someone will pet him. Jack has really become part of the family and we are very lucky to have chosen such a good dog. I attached some new pictures of Jack. The first two are from Christmas and the others are from a couple weeks before. Hope you had a great holiday Michelle, Chad and Jack

Yogi Girl
Updated: Wednesday, December 02, 2009 at 09:14PM
Just wanted to let you know that Yogi made it safely to Hawaii and is doing well - she is loving all the new smells here & spending time out on the patio. I was worried about her in her crate on the flight, but she was just fine. And even though she is still not great with other dogs, she was around my friend's baby yesterday and she was so well behaved. She was licking the baby on his nose and so gentle with him - very sweet. Anyway, feel free to put Yogi & her move to Hawaii on your website as a success story if you want. So glad I adopted her and that she seems so happy! Here is one more picture of Yogi - even with her stitched up nose, she is a happy girl!

Jingles
Updated: Thursday, July 02, 2009 at 01:20PM
I wanted to give you a quick update on Jingles, who we adopted in early March of this year. You'll be happy to hear that she has done amazingly well adjusting to her new home. She is so smart, so sweet, and very well behaved. My husband and I could not be happier to have her. In addition to being a wonderful start to our family, she has also gone with me to the local hospital to visit therapy patients. The patients are so happy to see her and love talking about their own past and present dogs. In short, we are very grateful to have her and thank you and the Humane Society. People are always shocked to hear she is a Humane Society dog and seem immediately interested in looking at the Humane Society for their next dog. Thank you again, Dana Sillers and Nick Fox

Hi Sally: We love Joe Joe! We have had Joe Joe in our lives for almost three months, and he has been a joy. He is just a bundle of energy! During the week, he goes to doggie daycare where he is Mr. Popular and everyone adores him! In the evenings, we take him on the trail a lot- he loves to go for long walks. We set up lots of play dates for him because he really likes to play wrestle with his friends. He loves to eat a lot, whether it is food or rawhides. His most favorite thing in the whole world is to play ball. We often go in the backyard and throw the ball for him to chase. We still haven't gotten the housetraining down completely, but he is getting there. He is a great little boy who loves to be held like a little baby, and will fall asleep in our arms. He loves kisses! He is a loveable, cuddable little guy and we are so happy he is a part of our family! Just a side note, the vet thinks that the reason he is so full of energy is because he is younger than four years old (more like 1 1/2, they said his teeth were too good to be four), which the vet that the shelter used listed him to be. Just wanted you to be aware.
Blitz
Updated: Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:34AM
When Blitz came to the Humane Society he was in pretty bad shape physically and mentally. His challenges never broke his spirit and through many, many months of medical care and a herd of dedicated volunteers, Blitz blossomed into a beautiful and healthy dog. He has made us very proud and we dearly miss him at the kennel. Enjoy your forever home Blitz!
Calvin
Updated: Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:23AM
After waiting nearly two years at the shelter, Calvin hit the jackpot. Calvin's new family wanted to adopt a dog, not just any dog, an older dog to be a companion to their 7-year old dog, Smokie. While we miss "Mr. Happy Pants" at the kennel, we know he has the best dog's life now in his own home with his own backyard. A big thank you to the Crowe family and Smokie for opening their hearts and home and making Calvin a member of their wonderful family.

Delgado
Updated: Monday, June 01, 2009 at 10:36AM
Delgado, now named Chance because he was given one. Chance now has two dog siblings, one, a former HSCC dog Rowena, a great brother named Duke and two AWESOME parents. They fostered Chance for 7 months and knew that he would become part of their family someday. Chance's story just proves that all dogs want to be loved. Once he was released from his ugly chains, he had the opportunity we want all animals to have. He is a loving dog who gives love back in so many ways. Chance's family took the time to nuture him and the time to show him what all dogs should live like. This is a real success story and one that we hope to have many more of with the chained dogs in our community and across the world. Way to go Chance.
Biggie G, Pooh Bear And Chucky
Updated: Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 08:52PM
WE HAVE 3 HSCC RESCUES BUT SALLY I KNOW BIGGIE G aka DUKE THE YELLOW LINE DOG WAS FOREMOST IN YOUR MIND.(SMILE) I AM SENDING YOU A PICTURE OF BIGGIE WHEN HE HAD SOME LITTLE FRIENDS COME VISIT. WE ARE ALL DOING GREAT! WE ALSO HAVE BEAR BEAR THE POM NOW POOH BEAR, AND CHARLIE, THE ENGLISH COCKER NOW CHUCKIE! THEY ARE LOVED AND ADORED. BIGGIE HAS SOME ARTHRItiC PROBLEMS AND TAKES MEDICATION BUT MOST DAYS RUNS UP AND DOWN THE STEPS OF THE DECK LIKE A PUP. HE IS THE FAVORITE OF ALL WHO VISIT EVEN THOUGH YOU WOULD THINK WITH HIS SIZE AND BARK HE WOULD BE INTIMIDATING. YOU GUYS ARE FANTASTIC AND SOME OF THE MOST KIND, CARING PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET. SALLY, YOU HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS. THEY DAY WE ADOPTED BIGGIE, WE HAD LOOKED AT SEVERAL DOGS. WE WERE UNDECIDED. MY HUSBAND ASKED SALLY “WHICH ONE IS THE MOST NEEDY” SHE SAID BIGGIE (AKA DUKE) HE HAD SEPaRATION ANXIETY ECT. WE NEVER SAW THAT! BUT WE HAD SIBLINGS HERE TO HELP HIM OVERCOME THAT. HE IS TRULY A GENTLE GIANT…WE WILL NEVER FORGET THE LOVE SHOWN TO BIGGIE FROM STAFF. WE ACTUALLY HAD TO BRING HIM BACK A SECOND TIME FOR SOME OF THE LADIES WHO WERE NOT THERE TO SAY GOODBYE. IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL YEARS NOW BUT THOSE TYPE OF THINGS STAY IN YOUR MIND FOREVER. WE ARE DOING SOME TILE WORK IN THE HOUSE AND HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT MAYBE JUST TAKING “ONE MORE”…OF COURSE WE WOULD CONTACT SALLY BECAUSE SHE WOULD KNOW WHICH ONE WAS “THE MOST NEEDY” AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT OF BIGGIE, POOHIE AND CHUCKIE IN OUR LIVES. THEY ARE OUR HEARTS! OUR GROWN CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND FRIENDS ALL ADORE THEM. EACH ARE UNIQUE! BUT THE BIG GUY STEALS THE HEARTS! We are all happy and healthy. I am semi-retired now. I have gone into business with a friend who is an animal lover! She owned and operated a pet hotel in California. Her son put himself thru college walking dogs! He is very active with "DOG TOWN" Have you seen the show? We have a miniature goat at the shop we call nanny goat...She ate a 20 bill today out of a pocket when we were holding her! We also have about 6 pet chickens and 2 roosters. And several rabbits! Quite a zoo. I take one of mine sometimes to work. So I guess I am back to mother nature! I never travel. My husband does some for work but I don't want to leave my kids! Hee hee... We are very saddened to see how many people are losing their homes and how many more dogs/cats are now homeless! The numbers on pet finders are astounding! We are blessed to be able to give these guys and gals lots of love and attention and treats. My husband has to make a trip 2xs a week to Wal-Mart to get the kids treats! My friend tells everyone when she dies she wants to come back as one of our pets as they are so pampered. We are seriously considering maybe just one more...a needy one med size....I know we have a lot but half stay down in the rec room with my husband and the rest up here with me. I leave animal planet on for them during the day and we watch DOG Whisperer together. I guess people think we are nuts.... Well hope you are doing well and let me know if that needy lil guy comes along!
Beagle Pup Mania
Updated: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 09:52PM
We adopted our mostly beagle puppy through the Humane Society in June, 2008. He had his first birthday on March 24. We knew him when he was first born because our neighbor, Gary Schmidt, owns his mother, Daisy. Gary's wife, Jan, named our puppy and his 3 brothers. She named our puppy, Ollie. We decided to keep that name for him because it seemed to fit and also because he already knew his name when we took him into our home. Ollie has now grown to be about 3 times the size of his mother, and is even bigger than Gary's other dog, Buddy, also a beagle. We had gone for several years without a dog before we got Ollie, and believe me, we didn't know the fun we were missing! Our children are all grown up and on their own, and our house had become very quiet and lonely. Ollie changed all that! We have an exuberant welcoming committee of one whenever we return home. He jumps up and licks us both as if we were the most important people in the whole world! He loves to fall asleep at night on Fred's lap in his Lazy Boy chair. Fred's belly makes a good pillow! Ollie loves to eat - almost any kind of dog food - he is not the least bit fussy. He also loves to chase squirrels in our big fenced back yard, although he's never caught one. I'm sure he can't wait for summer to come again so we can take him for a ride in the car to Rita's for a cup of vanilla ice cream! He has really added a lot to our lives and has made us very happy. We love him very much!
Sandee
Updated: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 09:09PM
Sandee - We are having to move since I got a new job in Baltimore. We found a beautiful apartment building that takes big doggies! So Sandee is coming with us! Got a huge raise of 10,000! Can't believe it! She is mostly a happy dog and we have learned what foods do best for her and what toys she wants and which raw hide treats work best and don't clog her up too badly! She seems to be thriving! Thanks again for such a great dog. She is very loyal and protective of both of us. She hates diesel engines, UPS men and the trash men! She likes all people but not other dogs or squirrels, or cats of ANY kind! Ah, well....We love her anyway!
Crackerjack
Updated: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 08:54PM
My sister and I are the owners of Cracker-jack . He is a now 1 year old and he is a Pomeranian. You might remember him , he is the dog that never settles down or takes a break and never is tired. Here is my happy ending story. As soon as Cracker Jack got home he felt just right there . He started laying on the couch, and the beds. He even started playing with our 2 adopted cats just like they were other dogs, he also loves watching our guinea pigs. He loves to sit on my lap and play the piano with me to make his own "dog" music. He very seldom barks and has never had an accident in the house. He is such a great dog....his energy level is always on high, but that is ok as we take him for walks daily. We have to get him his doggy spa treatment every month to keep his hair and nails in line. Thank you so much for Cracker Jack....
Project Little Lady
Updated: Monday, April 20, 2009 at 10:18AM
We all love Lady, neighbors included, and she has perfectly adjusted to our family. She has gained strength and confidence, but she still trips a lot and cannot do steps. To make the house friendlier for her I created pathways from carpet to carpet with no-slip pads. This way she can move around with no problem and be a pretty happy dog. The next project will be a little ramp so she could be able to reach the front yard by herself. It is a pleasure to watch her engaged in all the activities every normal young dog enjoys: chewing on everything (lightly), biting hands (gently), stealing slippers (slowly), bouncing around (tripping and rolling), barking to the other family dogs (“ferociously”) She likes the outside very much and we take her on small walks, or we carry her on longer ones. She enjoys people and all the compliments and petting she gets, especially from kids. This little handicapped dog is bringing me joy every day and reminding me that Life is always worth living.

Sally, just a quick update on Maggie Mae (Magnolia),I think this picture says 1,000 words. She still chews everything and has occasional accidents, but she has fit in with the other dogs; patience, and a lot of effort has really paid off.She is very active and loves to sit in the front window and look out into the woods. Thanks so much for all the help and e-mails for the beginning,it was tough but worth it!!!!We will come one Saturday to see you and my husband would like to help with clean up day(remember he is an electrician) if you need anything at the kennel!!!!Take care,Jackie 11/07 Maggie and Mookie, who hated each other in the beginning, are now the best of buds. Fantastic, especially for anyone who has doubts, hang in there, love always prevails!! These 2 couldn't even breathe the same air ,now look at them. 12/07 - The family sent a picture of the couch the dogs are not allowed on. October 2008 Good morning Sally, just wanted to say Hi and give you a Maggie update!! (MAGNOLIA),she just celebrated her second birthday and other then being a little chunky, she is wonderful!!I noticed a lot of Beagles that you have, just want to let everyone know they are lovable, loyal dogs. Maggie was tough as you remember at first adjusting to the other 2 dogs, but now, they are truly a family.I wanted to send a few pics of Maggie and again thank you for all the support when we first adopted her!! See you soon,Jackie p.s .(I took this picture this morning)she loves her covers!!! (and apparently her new little brother, also!)

Chloe was adopted by a loving couple who adore her. She lives with a kitty and has the run of the entire house. She will have a pool to lounge beside in the spring and summer. Chloe has brought allot of love to her new family and they fell in love with her the minute they met her. Chloe has taken her first family trip to PA for a visit with their son's family. She rode well in the car and enjoyed her 1st vacation. Many more are scheduled. As her adoption counselor, Chloe will forever stay with me. She has bounds of of love to share. My personal thanks to Animal Control for notifying me obout Chloe and to her former owner for doing what was best for Chloe.

Boy-oh-boy...did I ever get a good home! My mommy is just crazy about me and my daddy wishes that I'd get out of his chair! I have five feline siblings and they're OK, I guess... There are two horses here, but mom says they might kick me, so I'm not allowed to get too close. We walk and we play...I've figured out how the people bed works...it's WAY cool! I'm told that my foster daddy really misses me...I miss him too! Well Thanks! Samantha

He is such a great dog and we all adore him. He is already the most spoiled dog in the world!!! He still cowers at certain things, but we are working with him patiently. He seems very happy here and we are very happy that he is here. TJ follows me everywhere! He loves to go for rides in the car and walk on the North Beach pier. I hope we make him as happy as he has made us!! Thanks for everything and bringing this special dog into our lives!! Jessica

Cheryl, Hope your Holidays are going well. Love to you and Tim as well. Would you send this on to CCHS? for their happy endings. Ruby has captured all our hearts - especially Sophie's. They are inseperable. They usually have to be touching while sleeping. They spoon as well, what an adorable sight. Ruby is very camera shy. She loves treats and can sit, lie down, wait and occationally "bow". Sophie who has always been stubborn and unwilling to bow on command - now does it when we ask Ruby, I think only to focus our attentions back to her. Ruby is nonstop but will stop when Soph is exhausted and we tell here "that's enough! - not in the house." She has grown and added some much need weight and Soph has lost some (much needed) from all the play. She came with a worrisome curiosity about the cats but now knows "no cats" - the cats do feel comfortable and will often lounge near her. She is such a cutie - all our friends think she's a movie star. I am so happy that she chose us that day at HHSC.

Jynx is doing well and loving life. A letter from Jynx's new owner. Sally, I can't thank you and Amanda enough for my little girl. She is such a pleasure. She follows me everywhere and is such a joy to be around. She sleeps with us and snores louder than Mark. Mark really likes her and said she is very friendly. My son, Dean likes her company and takes her on walks. Recently she had 10 teeth pulled due to dental disease, but she is doing just fine. I can tell she loves her new mommy. I wanted to thank you both so much again. Keep up the great work! Without you, I would have never found my loveable little Jynxie. Love Laney Silbert (I just received an e-mail with a dozen pics of Jynx in full dress - I can't tell who is having more fun - Laney or Jynx! - Sally 10/07) Halloween 2008 See Jynx below just hotdogging it!

All is well with the babies here! The older fellows are playing with them now. I believe they suffer from AD/HD...every little thing distracts them! They chase moths, chew flowers, pounce on leaves...The challenge will be teaching blockhead Jake his name! Lucy is very smart. She is also established as Queen Bee here! I've attached pictures. They go to the doctor next week. Thank you for all of your support, Bill, Cricket, Brian, Katie, Ben, Lucy, Jake, Pugsley, and Chewbaka 11/08 We wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving. Here are the twins sharing the recliner with Cricket.
Radar
Updated: Sunday, November 02, 2008 at 09:19PM
Radar has officially been adopted!!!! Radar is in a loving home where he gets daily body massages, has multiple dog beds, doggy day care, and all the love in the world. He also gets lots of treats! This rescue is truly an amazing one and is proof that just because chained dogs may not have the best from the beginning doesn't mean they don't want it. They are just as deserving and can be loving family companions. Way to go Radar! Stay tuned -- more to come from Radar! By the way, Radar says Thank you to everyone who stood by him and gave him this chance at a great dog's life.
Marcus
Updated: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 09:43PM
Hi Grace, Sorry it's taken so long to get photos of "Marcus" to you, but here they are. (Make sure to look at the third photo especially!) Marcus is a wonderful dog, we can't find anything wrong with him, other than he drools a bit. We have learned to keep towels handy and even the grand kids will help wipe his chin. He loves his new brother, Popper, and is a totally well behaved dog. He has a fantastic personality and is quite a clown! While we were told to watch Marcus around younger children, our grand kids have unexpectedly come to live with us for awhile, and Marcus LOVES them! Hailey is 3 and Conor is 2. Marcus even has taken to a pacifier as Conor does. It's so funny to see, but we had to buy him his own as he wants Conor's. He even sleeps on the bed with the kids at night (the only time he gets on the furniture). Marcus has gone camping with us and is quite the camper, and he's the perfect size for our RV. We are so thrilled to have him as part of our family- thanks for letting us adopt him! Enjoy the pictures!

Good afternoon! Hope all is well with you. I just wanted to share some new pictures of Rascal. He has gotten so big! Our adoption finally just became finalized last week. Scheduling problems and Sallie had to make a special trip up here. But he's officially a Miller 'Boy' now! He had his share of bumps and bruises along the way but he's a tough puppy! He really has become a special member of our family. Take care.

His name is now "Big Boy" aka Cutestuff and Brindle Boy.
Otis
Updated: Monday, August 11, 2008 at 02:51PM
Hello! Sorry it took awhile to get these pictures to you ... it was a couple of weekends before we got together with some family to take our "family" photo. Otis has now been given the moniker of Moxie since he tends to show a lot of his spiritness. He even ran off on me the day you dropped him off at my house. He bolted out the door when I tried to get a package the was just left by UPS. Thank goodness I had my sneakers on because Moxie decided to play tag with me around the neighborhood. Thankfully two teenagers helped me out by catching up to him and giving him a pet/ grabbing his collar. Talk about having moxie!!! I had to carry the stinker three blocks home. In which we both pantingly crashed on the floor when we got there. Since then he has been a great little guy - he stays put now when we have to open the front door, loves car rides and does a great superman impression as he totally bypasses the deck steps and takes a leap off the deck into the yard. We have the best laughs now that Moxie is part of our family. Thank so much for rescuing and fostering our buddy. We can't imagine life without him now.
Fischer
Updated: Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 04:23PM
After a year of training to tidy up his socialization, Fischer has found his 'forever home'. His new family loves him dearly, and understands his need for structure and reassurance. He has a big fenced in back yard, a baby brother named Toby (formerly John -- also from the Calvert County Humane Society), and his very own wading pool! Fischer loves his new family, and he is gradually relaxing in the security of knowing that he will never have to find a new home again. Fischer is a delightful, intelligent, and loving dog, and his family feels blessed to share their lives with him. (This "Happy Ending" provided by Fischer's new Mom).

Devon 2
Updated: Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 09:39PM
I adopted my dog Devon from your organization in June of 2000. I'm glad to say he's happy and healthy and the light of my life. I live a secure and happy life knowing that Devon is on the job, watching over me and his cat children - they really think he is their dad, it's hilarious. We couldn't have a better companion. He's getting on a bit like giant dogs do, but loves doggie day care and always winds up with a posse, and loves to swim and go to the park for a big walk. I have moved a half dozen times since we became a family so I wanted to update his records, please. Here's a picture of him, and we are definitely a Happy Ending. A very happy ending :) Carolyn

Just wanted to drop you all a line to let you know how Iʼm doing. I like my new name and am having a great time in my new home. Iʼve made new friends and have had play dates with Anya, who lives next door. Iʼm also taking Good Manners classes from Miss Brett from Canine Mind. Miss Brett is brilliant because she trained my family to feed me lots of yummy treats and she told my mom about freezing yogurt and pumpkin inside of my chew toys. Those things are really good on a hot day. Iʼve also learned how to behave around other dogs and humans. Itʼs makes life a lot easier. I went swimming in the Bay for the first time on Sunday and discovered that I really like to swim. My family and I play ball in the yard all the time and go for long walks where I get to meet all sorts of other dogs and their humans. Thank you for rescuing me and for finding me a family to love. Love Lilly (formerly Atlanta)
Sebastian
Updated: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 09:57AM
This little guy is an amazing puppy. He’s very smart and boy did you start him off on the right foot with training. He’s had maybe 3 accidents in the house which I think is great for his age. He goes outside as long as we are prompt about taking him out. I can’t believe how good he is and how much he understands. The only problem is jumping and biting but he’s very young and that will be worked out. He just tries to play with Rocky and jumps and mouth bites but he’s learning. He loves to chase Rocky and Rocky is learning how to get in on the fun as well. Rocky and Sebastian played tug of war today with a toy. Could not get the camera quick enough. They are getting closer by the day. He love’s all his toys and boy does he work for those treats!! Sebastian is a hit with all the neighborhood children. My doorbell rings constantly and everywhere we walk him people stop and ask to pet and hold him. He’s so cute following Rocky down the street. You were right that he is also snuggly and lovable. He’s just so good I can’t get over it. He’s my son’s dream. My son disappeared the other night and he woke up and ran to look out the back door then he looked toward the front door – whined and headed down the hall. My son made a noise and they found each other. Then my son continued to hide from room to room to have Sebastian follow him. He was in heaven!! He went to vets and got clean bill of health and Lyme shot and front line. So he’s all set. A few pictures for your enjoyment. I mainly wanted you to know that your training of Sebastian is obvious because even though our environment is new he still knows what to do. My stepmother babysat my son and Sebastian today and even said he sat for me 3 different times when I asked. She said she did not believe it the first time but he kept doing it. My mom even said he’s extremely smart. Bringing this guy home is like a new arrival my whole family has been here all week. Nothing like a new puppy. I forgot how sweet it is. We of course have lots more pictures and video that has not been uploaded yet but I wanted to get a few off to you as promised. Thank you so much and I hope all is well with you, your family and your gal and guy! All the best,
Meesha

I am a lucky little girl. The Humane Society and a handler from a local Sheriff's Department thought I was a great candidate to be a bomb dog. So in January of 2007, I went to school. Only to show that I was very fearful of too many people coming at me in the Courthouse. My handler thought it was best to fail me out of the program. But that's ok, because the person who rescued me took me back, fell in love with me all over again and I became a part of her faimly. You see, dogs and cats can overcome certain parts of their past, but when people are really, really mean... it takes time and lots of love. I live inside the house, have my own BIG dog bed and have an awesome 6 year old chocolate labrador for a sister. I guess you can say me and my former yard mate Ray hit the lottery. I'm thankful to have been given the chance to be a law enforcement canine. My former handler and his family were very, very kind to me. I would have been a good canine cop, because my drive and nose are awesome. I'll take the laidback approach and chill on the couch, retrieve tennis balls and visit the beach often. Love Meesha

Hello everybody, (from Buddy Two Shoes and Otto) Sorry we have not written you before now, but we have really been busy. We really love our new forever home; it has a really big yard that we get to play in, lots of trees and new friends that come check us out Every once in a while (daddy calls them squirrels and the big ones deer) to see if we can play but they just run away when we try to say hi. I have gotten used to my little brother Otto and actually kind of like him except when he gets excited and jumps all over me. We get to see Kyle at doggy school every week (I really like Kyle) because my little brother needed some schooling at least that’s what my new mommy told me. Kyle says he is doing pretty well. But I don’t think he listens as well as me, but he is only a pup and it will take some time and daddy says he is stubborn. What is stubborn? I try to teach him but he just ignores me. HEY LET ME SAY HI – I WANT TO TALK TOO Ok Otto I will let you tell them the rest. OH THAT’S GREAT THANKS BIG BROTHER. Did buddy tell you we have some really nice little people next door who come over and play with us during the day, yep that’s right they take us out and we get to run around the big yard and play with raven the doggy who lives next door to us. She is really pretty and I think buddy has a crush on her but don’t tell anyone. Oooh oooh know what? We go to another house on the weekends (what’s a weekend?) at least that’s what my new daddy calls it, anyway it’s not as big as our regular house and the yard is smaller too but know what? There is a river in the back yard and buddy has learned how to swim that’s right my big brother jumps right in there and swims around like he has been doing it forever. I don’t like to swim the water is cold but I like to chase all the birds and bugs. We really like our new forever home and all the attention we get, though I do try to get ALL the attention ,when mommy or daddy is petting buddy I get right in between them and buddy goes away and then I get all the love ( he he ). YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really tired I think I will take a nap now. So long for now tell ms.Karen hi for me and ms.Sally hi for buddy

I am so lucky! My former owner had to give me and his two other dogs up due to illness, and the Humane Society took us in. My foster mom brought me to her house when my closest buddy got adopted so I wouldn’t be lonely. I got very attached to my foster mom, so when I got adopted to another family, I made sure it wouldn’t work out. I came back to my foster mom’s house, and she decided that I wasn’t going anywhere. I became a permanent member of the family in November, 2007, and now I have three sisters to play with. My favorite activity besides sleeping with my best buddy, Ziggy, is bringing my mom tennis balls and toys to throw so I can catch them. Life is great!!

Some very nice people at the Humane Society brought me back to Maryland after Hurricane Katrina. I started out living at Interlude Kennels, but was really longing for a home to call my own. My wish came true when my mom-to-be had her first foster dog adopted and brought her dogs to Interlude to see how they would get along with another dog. We got along so well that Mom brought me home to foster. It didn’t take Mom too long to figure out what I had figured out at that first meeting, and that was I was already in my forever home. It’s now been almost three years since that fateful day, and I couldn’t be happier or more loved.

Well folks, Buddy’s odyssey has ended. What began in the heavy rains of Hurricane Katrina, ended today in down-pour just north of Hughesville. We had to sit in the car for more than 15 minutes before we could get into his new house. He got a wonderful home. When we drove in, there were fresh “wireless fence” flags inside a pre-existing (but excellent) chain link fence. His crate sits inside a huge window looking out onto the back yard. It’s a bright cheerful spot, with very positive energy. His family impresses me too. They have such a good outlook on things. Their last dog lasted for a lifetime, and I suspect that Buddy will do so too… He has two people brothers; both in their early 20s, and both very nice (read that, gentle and very kind with him). When the husband and wife came to the Calvert Fair Grounds, his mommy had decided that she was ready to have a dog again. They were looking in conjunction with Mother’s Day. I’m happy to report that she’s a new mother tonight…to a bouncing 50 pound baby boy…

From the Bittingers - Daphne's happy ending. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing very well. I lost my owner of ten years and was placed in a kennel. I didn't like that very much. Then I went with a nice lady for a while (thanks Cheryl)!! Being 10 years old, not very many people wanted me. Then I met the Bittingers. My new mom fell in love with me right away, then later that day she brought the rest of the family including another 4 legged sister. I was going to have 4 different people around to pet me. The first couple of weeks were a little touchy. I had been a loner. Now I had to share all the food and water bowls and attention from my mom (who I like the best). I also was not to sure about the tall dark haired man that kept wanting to pet me. I have learned to like that man and have also learned that there is enough love to go around. We go for car rides (which I love), play snuggles on the floor and we walk EVERYDAY. Did you know there are new smells everyday?? I am really liking it here. I hear we are going camping this summer, I can't wait!!

We just brought the boat down from Middle River. We've been walking Kadi up & down the finger pier for months now and we'll see if she likes boating soon! She is gorgeous - and her coat has so much more glean since we've changed her food. She's up to about 37 lbs now too ... it's a good weight for her. We just love her to death ... we just wish the whole cat chasing thing wasn't taking so long to break. We took Kadi to the local PetsMart store for the first time the other day - you should have seen her. She was mesmerized by all of the sounds, smells, and distractions and the endless supply of toys and food!!! She's been experiencing so many new things since she's been with us - it's a joy to watch! And she's really thriving! She's becoming very popular in the neighborhood too as she gets two 45 min-1 hour walks each day. She's getting her exercise and we're getting ours!

Sorry it took me so long to get this to you but here is the picture of Kristy with her new family. She is such a great dog, though she extremely resistant to the crate training. She loves to go to the dog park and play with all of the dogs. Both Mathew and I love her very much. Hope you are finding lots of good homes for all the dogs at the shelter.

Our Happy Ending After losing our yellow lab of 12 years in late October we lasted about three weeks in misery before we started looking for another dog. We decided to go the adoption route and headed to the CCHS. We were all in agreement that we needed to stay away from any dog That looked like Max because it was still to painful. Online we fell in love with Snugs. A beagle mix with the most expressive face ever. We went out to look at her and there in the same pen with her was a beautiful yellow lab. We were told that Peaches was going to her New home that weekend and we breathed a sigh of relief because we were sure we’d have to get her too! Then about a month after Snugs (renamed Sydney) was well into our hearts I was showing a friend your website trying to get her to go the adoption route too. There was Peaches…..AGAIN! Available. I called Karan right away. We had to have her. I told Karan our story about losing Max, Getting Sydney and realizing that we still wanted a lab (in addition to Sydney of course). We went that day and got Peaches (renamed Peyton). As you can see from the pictures Sydney and Peyton have made themselves at home. They play, fight, and interact like Sisters. They brought joy back to our house that was so sad after losing the perfect dog. Thanks for everything. The Conrads

McGee Has found a wonderful home. His people mommy likes to hike and run and she takes McGee on both walks and runs near his home in the Virginia suburbs. The attached pictures are of his recent trip to meet his new grand parents in Florida. Congratulations to McGee for finding a wonderful home and a great people companion!

She is doing great. She has gained 8 lbs. Gotten talller and now looks full grown. She needs at least 1 1/2 hrs of strenerous excerise daily, which she gets. She loves the beach and running thru the woods. She is a great hiker. She listens really well and can go off leash. She goes to the dog park 1-2 times a week. When dogs get aggresive with her she rolls out of it and runs to me. She sleeps in her own bed every night. She is very spoiled. Looking into doggy day care one day a week for her.I can drop her off on my way to work. There have been no accidents in the house...bathroom or ripping stuff up. She seems to good to be true. I will send you a photo when I get one. Mary

Lucky is doing very well in his new home. For a puppy who suffered living outside in a doghouse with no floor, food thrown to him now and then and an uncertain future... He was abandoned when he was just 6 months old. His mom was rescued off the side of the road by the Humane Society a few months earlier. The owners would not let Lucky go at that time. He and his Mom are living the high life now. Lucky is in training and is an intregral part of his new family. He has a fenced in yard that he romps in and continues to be the best dog ever! Lucky has his pick of what bed he wants to sleep in at night. Well deserved Lucky. UPDATE: April 3, 2008 Lucky's Mom called me to tell me that he graduated FIRST in his obedience class. He is loved by all and is doing very well. Lucky is moving up to the intermediate class and is doing great. I miss you Lucky, but I can't be more happier that you found the best forever home a dog could ask for. Love, Laurel (I rescued Lucky and was his foster mom)

Here are some excerpts from a beautiful letter written by Biscuit's new family: "It's been 6 months since we've adopted Biscuit...Biscuit has brought along his own sweet personality and has taken to training very well. While it would be wrong to have expected Biscuit to 'replace' Scout(our black lab of 8 years that was lost to an aggressive cancer), he has warmed our hearts and our home. He has filled a tremendous void and quickly made himself part of our family. His antics are precious and we love to spend time with him. It's fun to watch him experience things for the first time, since his life with us is very different from his early years on a farm. He loves to walk on the leash around the lake, chasing ducks, looking at turtles, beavers and whatever else might be living there at the time. When we first got him, he didn't know how to get into the car; now he loves to go for rides and sleeps like a baby in the back seat. He has been known to howl at an ambulance siren and can play for hours with his ball and Kong. Thank you to Peggy and the staff for leading us to him that day. Also, for knowing that we were meant for each other."

Hey there! I met my Playmates and got out of the Kennel.... Thanks to everyone who took such great care of me at the Humane Society. I am happy to report that I am being a good boy. My new name is Dexter. Me and my sister Bella (a 13 month Yellow Lab) get along real good. I get 3-4 walks a day, tennis balls, squeaky toys, lots and lots of ear rubs and of course treats. After 14 months in rescue, it feels so good to be in a forever home. Lots of Love Dexter (aka Player)

Charlie is doing great in his new home. Charlie's new dad has been showing his picture all around work, he is one proud dad. His dad Rodney, reports that they both got tired on one of their walks. From Charlie's Dad: Last night, Charlie and I went for our walk (more like a trot_ into a new territory. Apparently, there are hundreds of dogs in that neighborhood. Charlie stopped at every post, every bush, every blade of grass and left his mark. This morning, he wanted to go back to the same area instead of our regular routine. Just not enough time for that in the morning. He is doing very well when it comes to Furfie. He is gentle and just wants her to be friends. She is getting better. She comes to the door and will be seen, but that's as far as she goes. She will come around. Charlie does not eat much, he is more interested in his toy moose and toy monkey that he shakes around. Ray's new family can't stop talking about him. They call him King Ray! He is his dad's shadow and is always carrying a toy around in his mouth. He has made friends with his sister, a kitty name Mittens. They now share toys and chase each other around. Ray's new family is pleased to be able to give him a wonderful forever home. A trainer has assisted them with his house training and he is making big strides. Ray's very ugly past is behind him and he is on his way to having the best dogs life! All of us at the Humane Society miss seeing Ray, but we are truly happy about his very happy ending.

She has tons of dog friends in the neighborhood and enjoys car rides! Here is a picture of her the first day we got her and then on the fourth of July. Mary Ann
